Design of steel profiles
The design process for the manufacturing of custom profiles
Designing a custom steel profile involves several steps and requires close cooperation between the customer and the manufacturer so that the final product perfectly meets the specific needs of the application.
For years, design and engineering have been two of Calvi’s core skills. We listen very carefully to our customer’s requests and understand what their needs are. This approach allows us to define the most effective manufacturing process and deliver the profile our customers need, while guaranteeing total quality and lower costs.
Main design stages
Analyzing customers’ needs
Collecting and understanding the technical and functional specifications requested by the customer and identifying the operating conditions which the profile will be subjected to.
Feasibility study
Assessing the technical feasibility of the profile manufacturing and analyzing all the different aspects and specific requests.
Profile drawing
Developing a drawing of the profile in accordance with main international standards, aiming at metrological control.
Process design
Defining the best manufacturing process depending on the type of profile to be made.
FEM analysis
Computerized analysis to check the plastic deformation conditions of the material during the processes. FEM analysis helps evaluate any critical issues and optimizes the manufacturing cycle.
Equipment design
Sophisticated mathematical models are used to design and create the specific equipment needed to put the profile into production.
Prototyping and validation
Creating profile prototypes and checking - through measurements, tests and in-depth analysis - that they meet the customer’s technical specifications and expectations.
Production
Releasing and putting the project into production and then moving on to the manufacturing of the special custom profiles.
