Heat treatment

Heat treatment for steel optimization

Bar treatment depending on the final profile

Heat treatment is used to bring the mechanical features of the steel back to optimum values and so optimize it for subsequent operations.

This kind of treatment can become necessary both as a pre-processing operation and as an intermediate step repeated at different stages of the manufacturing process.

Calvi has seven batch furnaces. Four are provided with a resistance heating system and three with a radiant tube heating system, with varying power and load capacities.

The material is treated in a controlled nitrogen atmosphere to prevent oxidation and surface decarburization. Calvi also has a furnace equipped with an endogas generator which is used if decarburization is not allowed.

The furnace chambers are designed to accommodate up to 13 meter-long bars and have a load capacity of up to 50 tons. In some cases, the thermal annealing cycles can last up to more than 60 hours.
